Tag based on Order note
Please Note:
Order notes are slightly different to Order attributes (Additional details), which are custom form fields that let you collect additional information from your customers on the cart page. Order notes is a unique field within the order data, whereas Order attributes (Additional details) are flexible and can contain multiple name:value pairs of data.
Order notes, which are available in most Shopify themes, allow Merchants to capture special instructions on how to prepare and deliver an order. Order notes are usually captured via a text input area at the bottom of the cart page prior to checkout.
Here is how that field usually appears on the cart page:
We have put together a simple step-by-step guide on how to tag orders that meet one of the following conditions:
- The order has an order note
- The order does not have an order note
- The order has an order note that contains a particular string of text
- The order has an order note that does not contain a particular string of text
How to use the criteria
To create a workflow using this criteria, click on the Create New Workflow button from the main Workflows view:
Define the trigger to determine at which point you would like the workflow to run, we recommend selecting the trigger when orders are created.
Click the Add criteria to my workflow button:
The Order note criteria can be found within the Order category in the Select criteria pop-up window:
Click the Use in your workflow button on the right to select this criteria.
You will then be presented with the following screen:
Select the condition that the criteria must match:
Here is what each option within the conditions dropdown will do:
contains: If the order has an order note and it contains a particular string of text.
does not contain: If the order has an order note but it does not contain a particular string of text.
is not empty: If the order has an order note.
is empty: If the order does not have an order note.
Select the option that most suits your needs.
If selecting the contains or does not contain condition, enter the string that you are looking to find in the order note:
Defining the Tag name
Define the tag name/names that you would like to be applied when this workflow matches your criteria (don't forget to click the Add fixed tag button):
Saving and naming your workflow
It is mandatory to name your workflow to save or edit it. Otherwise, you won't be able to save the changes or even test them. Then, check the summary of your workflow, and if happy, either Test your Workflow against an existing order or hit Save Workflow::
If you want to create a different tag for each different string of text that may appear in the Order Note, just create a new workflow for each string.
Dynamic Tags
Order Note tagging is not currently available as a dynamic tag.
