Segment the Bargain Hunters
There's nothing a bargain hunter likes more than a great offer, especially on BFCM weekend! The bargain hunter segment should be one of the first segments you create and target when running email campaigns, as these customers are highly responsive to offers and promotions!
Defining Bargain Hunters
A Bargain Hunter is a customer who will only ever checkout when they have a discount code, or a product is on promotion/in the sale. They clearly love your brand but perhaps can't afford the full price items, so they tend to be waiting in the wings for your next offer!
Setting up the Bargain Hunters segment
Within Customer Tagger you can automatically tag a Bargain Hunter using different criteria within the app:
1 - All customers who checkout with a discount code
2 - All customers who buy a sale item (Compare at price active)
3 - All customers who buy from a sale / clearance collection
Create a workflow to tag customers when the order contains a discount code
When setting up this workflow you have different options, you can either look for a specific tag e.g. Black Friday or you can simply tag the customer if a discount code exists. For this example, we will demonstrate how to create a workflow which tags a customer when any discount code is used.
The first step is to define the trigger, which will be when orders are created. This means the workflow will run whenever an order is placed on your store.
Now you have defined the trigger, the next step is to assign some criteria. The criteria will be Discount Code, which can be found in the criteria pop-up within the sub heading Transactions or you can just search the keyword within the modal and it should appear.
The next step is to define the operator and for this workflow you can select is NOT empty which will mean the workflow will apply to any order created which contains ANY Discount Code. If you would like to be more specific you can use the contains or in operators which will allow you to define a comma separated list of codes.
The next step is to define the tag you would like to apply to the customer record when they meet the criteria. We're going to call our segment Bargain Hunters, therefore each customer will be tagged Bargain Hunter
You also have the option at this stage to add a dynamic tag of the discount code which the customer uses. This would automatically apply the exact name of the code used against the customer. Allowing you to create more detailed segments based on what code they used. To do this, you can open the dropdown and simply select Discount Code from the list.
Saving and naming your workflow
It's worth giving your workflow a name to help you identify it at a later date, so add a workflow name in the New Workflow section, check the summary of your workflow and if happy, either Test your Workflow against an existing order or hit Save Workflow:

Now you have created your segment, you might want to add it to your list of segments to backdate so you can begin creating your marketing lists ahead of BFCM.
