Delayed Tagging

Why would I need to delay tagging my customers?

There are many Shopify apps that may need to edit customers in some way. Quite often, two or more apps will be trying to perform an update at the same time. This will result in the customer data being overwritten.

As Customer Tagger performs tagging in a matter of seconds, adding a delay to when we apply your workflows to the customer can prevent clashes with other apps.

If you are looking to build a tagging workflow that relies on other tags being applied to either the customer or the order before Customer Tagger runs its workflows, then delayed tagging is an invaluable feature.

Setting global delayed tagging

You can define a delay within the Customer Tagger Settings. The delay will apply to all workflows that you have created:

You can set the delay to one of the following units of time:

  • seconds
  • minutes
  • hours
  • days

We recommend that you tweak the settings to see what works for you, but to start with something like 2 minutes to see if that solves the issue.

Setting specific workflow delayed tagging

You can define a delay within the workflow settings. This delay will only apply to the workflow you have created and applied it to and bypass the global delay you have set up in the Customer Tagger settings. This will help you set up complex scenarios where one or more workflows can rely on one initial workflow.

You can set the delay to one of the following units of time:

  • Minutes
  • Hours
  • Days

The delay will start from when we receive the Order/Create webhook from Shopify.

Please note :

  • If there is a non-delay workflow, It will be tagged and shown on the "Recently processed orders" page. (Only non-delay tags)
  • If there is no other workflow for that order, the order looks like in the screenshot on the “Recently processed orders” page. Even if tagged after, that order will still look like this on the page.
