Why highlight VIP Customers?

Identifying your VIP customers and rewarding them each time they place another order is a key component of customer retention and building brand loyalty.

Offering VIP customer rewards also encourages other customers to strive to reach VIP status, so a rewards scheme such as Yotpo's Loyalty & Referrals program is an ideal way to incentivize your customers to reach VIP status.

There are two main ways to define VIP customers, either by the number of purchases made or the total amount spent.

For this example, we are going to create a workflow to tag Customers with a VIP tag when they have spent more than $500 with your store.

How to set up the workflow in Customer Tagger

To create a workflow using the Customer has other unfulfilled/partially fulfilled orders, click on the Create New Workflow button from the main Workflows view:

Define the trigger to determine at which point you would like the workflow to run, we recommend selecting the trigger when orders are created.

Click the Add criteria to my workflow button:

The  Customers total spend criteria can be found within the Customer category in the Select criteria pop-up window:

Click the  Use in your workflow button to select this criteria.

From the criteria options, select Greater than:

Enter 500 into the value field:

There is also the option to exclude the current order value:

Choose the name of the tag you'd like to see on all orders that match this workflow and enter it into the Add tags when the workflow matches section. In this example we have used the tag VIP:

Click on the  Add fixed tag button.

Saving and naming your workflow

It's worth giving your workflow a name to help you identify it at a later date, so add a workflow name in the New Workflow section, check the summary of your workflow and if happy, either Test your Workflow against an existing order or hit Save Workflow:

Customers who have spent more than $500 (or 500 of the currency that your store is configured for) will be tagged with VIP when they place their next order.

Applying the reward points in Yotpo

To add reward points when VIP Customers place a new order, we need to move over to Shopify Flow and create a new workflow with an action to add reward points via the Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals program.

Flow template

Rather than creating this workflow from scratch in Flow, we have a pre-built Flow template ready for you to use: Create a workflow from template

The template summary page will explain the details of the workflow that the template will create:

Click on the Create workflow from template button and customize the workflow with the name of your tag (if different to VIP) and how many loyalty points you'd like to reward your VIP customers with.

Remember to save and enable the workflow.

That's it! Your Customer Tagger workflow and Shopify Flow Workflow are now live!

30 seconds after a workflow has been processed by Order Tagger, your Workflow in Shopify Flow will be triggered.

Backdating

If you'd like to go through and apply the VIP tag to all existing customers in your store, we have a backdating feature that will allow you to process your Customer Tagger workflows against existing orders that have been placed in your store.
